Norfolk is one of the only cities in the state and the only city in Hampton Roads with an un-elected school board. Their budget spends our tax dollars and their policies control the future of our children. The people deserve the chance to elect its leadership.
On January 18th the Clerk of the Circuit Court certified his receipt and acceptance of our petition for a local referendum. Over the next 6 months we will endeavor to collect the roughly 13,000 signatures necessary to place the issue of an elected school board on the November 8th ballot. Should the measure pass, a new school board will be chosen during the May 2012 municipal elections.
Please, look around the city, explore the arguments for and against an elected school board, and learn about the current condition of schools in Norfolk. We welcome your input and gladly accept any offers for help or advice. If you are passionate about fixing the schools in Norfolk, this is your best chance to do it.
